Hey, Huh, What?
We at matrixevents have been away for a while, and for that we apologize. Pretty sincerly too, although who knows if anyone reads this other than us. Life has been good though. Thanks for asking. Here’s what’s up in the matrixevents world:
SO MANY NEW LIT EVENTS YOUR HEAD WILL IMPLODE(CLICK TO SEE)
NOW AVAILABLE: Matrix 79, THE NEW UNDERGROUND
In THE NEW UNDERGROUND, Matrix 79 presents a selection of emerging writers from across Canada, edited by Maya Merrick and Ian Orti, alongside featured poetry by Dennis Lee and Stuart Ross, a studio visit with Besty Warland, fiction by Sarah Steinberg and a whole slew of book reviews.
Matrix 79 also features an eclectica of columns: David McGimpsey’s Self-Esteem Workout, Joe Ollmann’s Mean Old Man in Training, Ian Orti & Sophie Caird’s Billy Fong Parade, Taien Ng-Chan’s Movie Mythos, Darren Wershler-Henry’s Alienated and Claire Gibson & Marian Churchland’s Nernies.
2. The next Pilot
Thanks to all of those who made the February Pilot yet another success. March’s lineup for Sunday the 30th is as follows:
The Pilots have been wonderfully literary and rowdy events, check out our lineups for the next two months here.
As we experienced, The Pilot Reading Series (just a reminder for the uninformed: the last Sunday of every month at Blizzarts, 3956A St. Laurent) will go on through the night. No longer will lovers of drink and words alike be sent out into the night weary of where to go next. No longer will the poets be set aside for bad hip hop. We have Blizzarts to ourselves until they kick us out, so bring a couple of extra ducats and settle in for the nights literary miracles.
3. Ascot Tuesdays Take Montreal Hostage, Shot and Killed
Matrix Magazine (under the guidance of our musical culture arm Matrix Music) has been pleased as punch to present Ascot Tuesdays at Korova (3908 St. Laurent). Unfortunately, as we all know, fashion is cyclical and the Ascot is dead. SUPER TUESDAYS are here instead with music from Billy Fong Parade and YOU! Bring in you ipods, xpods, lps, eps, and 8 tracks to hear what you need. The night is getting exponentially more popular as the weeks pass by. Come out soon before you’re too cool to go. More info can be found here.
4. Site Changes (Tweaks Really)
Not many changes. However, Five Books Matrix Likes will soon become Five Random Things We Like. This could be any damned thing in the Matrix universe and its peripheral. It may inculde a book or two, but for the best reviews of interesting lit, buy the damn magazine. Please. Thanks.
5. Matrix Issue No. 78 “The Narrative I”
